Another EXCLUSIVE Interview with Screenwriter of "Macho Libre"!

This is part II of our special Q&A series with the screenwriters of the three skits that will be PREMIERING this weekend at Teatro LHDC's Spring Performance. This time around we have a great chat with Carolina Alfaro, the mujer behind "Macho Libre." Read the UNEDITED Q&A below!

Teatro LHDC: Hola, Caro. Fans of Teatro Los Hijos del Campo are familiar with your involvement and the fact that you're its founder. How long have you been writing skits?
Carolina Alfaro: I've been writing off and on for the last 14 years.

T LHDC: What brought you into the crazy, hectic, exciting world of screenwriting and directing?
CA: I suppose the love for teatro members. Each member had a unique way in bringing my characters to life and that inspired me to continue writing more and directing.

T LHDC. Great! Where does your inspiration come from?
CA: Mostly political issues that affect our Chicano community and some of it comes from Teatro Campesino & Teatro Izcalli.

T LHDC: That's true. Chicanas/os are facing a lot of issues, now con lo que esta pasando en Arizona. What genres do you prefer? What genre(s) are the most challenging and/or rewarding to write?
CA: I prefer to write comedy style skits although I always feel that I'm better at the more serious skits that deal with farmworker issues.

TLHDC Tell us a little more about what to expect from "Macho Libre"?
CA: I expect Macho Libre to send a message to mostly parents and teens considering the military...although, it's written for any type of audience, I specifically wanted to target the high school community.

TLHDC: And, finally, what should fans of Teatro LHDC be looking for in the near future from you? Any teasers, hints?
CA: Hmmm a christmas play for sure...which one? You will have to stay tuned! It will be a crowd pleaser for sure!

TLHDC: Thanks Caro!

And don't forget to catch the debut of "Macho Libre" Saturday, 15/May/2010 at 07:00PM and Sunday, 16/May/2010 at 02:00PM at CSU Stanislaus.

Exclusive! Q&A with Screenwriter of "Las Super Marias"!

Read below the UNCENSORED Q&A con Veronica Serrano, screenwriter of "Las Super Marias" premiering in Teatro LHDC's Spring 2010 performance. Check it out!

Teatro LHDC: Fans of Teatro Los Hijos del Campo are familiar with your works, from Super Chicanita Nopalera to Compitas. How long have you been writing skits?
Veronica Serrano: Ive been writing skits ever since I joined teatro los hijos del campo, so like since 2006.

T LHDC: What brought you into the crazy, hectic, exciting world of screenwriting and directing?
VS: I LOVE to entertain! Especially make people laugh! And if I can promote social change while I'm at it, hasta mejor;)

T LHDC: Where does your inspiration come from?
VS: My inspiration usually comes from injusticias I see that make me mad. I want to call attention to them so the rest of the people know about them and try to do something about it. Besides that everything in our cultura is pretty good inspiration, from la lucha libre to los naco de Mexico City, to beans, and guaraches.

T LHDC: What genres do you prefer? What genre(s) are the most challenging and/or rewarding to write?
VS: Commedy definitly! It can be tough to make people laugh, in your head you might think something is funny, but you never really know untill you share it with others. When you hear the audience laugh at something you wrote it's just an ultimate high.

T LHDC: Tell us a little more about what to expect from "Las Super Marias"?
VS: From the Super Marias, the audience can expect strong women characters, all my super heroes are always mujeres;) And to pee their pants laughing! Hopefully a bit of inspiration and motivation to act.

T LHDC: What should fans of Teatro LHDC be looking for in the near future from you? Any teasers, hints?
VS: Hijole, I don't even know what's coming up next. Haver que me inspira in the summer.

T LHDC: Thanks for your time, Vero!
